In a controversial remark, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee has warned that those who dare to challenge the Trinamool Congress administration will have their eyes gouged out and their arms chopped off.
The president of Trinamool Congress’ youth wing also trained his gun at Narendra Modi and said that most of the political parties have fallen on the feet of the Prime Minister, but TMC did not.
The TMC MPs have shown that they would not spare anyone who tries to exploit the people of West Bengal, said Abhishek while addressing a party meet in Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas.
He added: “In the heart of Delhi, in Parliament and through various protests, Mamata Banerjee and the TMC have proved that if the interests of the people of Bengal are hurt, we will not leave the matter. As long as Mamata is there, if anyone dares to look at West Bengal with evil intentions, we will gouge their eyes out and throw them on street, if they raise their hands, we’ll cut their arms off. But you have to remember that in democracy, it is the common man who will say the last word.”
The comments of Abhishek has attracted severe criticism from the other political parties.
“The comments are the reflection of the DNA of Trinamool Congress. This is what is expected of TMC and its leaders,” BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said.
BJP leader GVLN Rao said that if TMC MPs think that they will scare people by using such language, there will be a revolution in West Bengal. He also said that TMC can win elections only by unleashing terror.
CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said the proactive statements of Abhishek shows the mindset of Trinamool.
“I am not surprised by the statement. This is their ideology and mindset. Several TMC leaders had earlier spelt it out. Now Abhishek has said it,” Chakraborty said.
Banerjee was slapped in January this year by a man at a rally at Chandipur in East Midnapore district, causing an outrage in the party.
Many other TMC MPs have unleashed foul-mouthed rant against the Opposition in the past as well.
